Seahorse Sanctuary - Tours available December 2004 Website: www.seahorsesanctuary.com.au - Email: kalseahorse@westnet.com.au Kalbarri Western Australia 6537
A credit to conservation biologists Michael and Wendy Payne, the Seahorse Sanctuary facility was established in Kalbarri in 2004. Together they aim to conserve the world's dwindling natural resources by culturing seahorses and other tropical marine ornamental fish species for the home aquarium. Many fish including seahorses that are currently sold in aquarium shops are taken from the wild, contributing to the depletion of our world's delicate coral reef ecosystems.

Coastal Cliffs & River Gorges |
|
|
Coastal Cliffs Red Bluff, Mushroom Rock, Rainbow Valley, Pot Alley, Eagle Gorge, Shellhouse and Grandstand, Island Rock Natrual Bridge.
These costal cliffs to the south of Kalbarri provide some excellent scenery and different features which are well sign posted from the road. Access to a great beach can be gained at Eagle Gorge where eagles have been seen soaring on the air currents. Rainbows can be seen in the sea mist at Rainbow Valley and shows layers of different rock colours and types. An ocean view of these features can be obtained from a "Sunset Cliffs and Dolphin Search Tour" provided by Kalbarri Explorer or the "Spectacular Costal Cliff Cruise" by Kalbarri Reefwalker Tours. Kalbarri Coach Tours provide a "Coastal Gorges Tour" (See Tours Section)
River Gorges The Loop, Z Bend, Hakes Head, Ross Graham Lookout
Several lookouts are positioned around the Loop to give different perspectives on the switchback course of the Murchison River. Nature's Window is a natural rock arch which superbly frames the upstream view. The Z Bend is an easy half kilomter (500 metre) walk to a lookout which overhangs the Murchison River. Hawks Head provides a spectacular gorge view while the Ross Graham Lookout gives a similar view and an easy walk to the rock pools on the gorge's river bed.
Caution: Be aware of your surroundings and cautious of rock overhangs. Inclement weather can make visiting these Coastal Cliffs and Gorges hazardous. In this case a guide tour by one of Kalbarri's experience tour operators is recommended.
